Flower Skills and Training - Specialists in Construction Training

Flower Skills and Training (Construction Training Providers) are delivering a 3-day a week, 6 month accredited training course for those over 16 years old. The Construction Diploma Level 1 is available in one of Carpentry, Plastering or Painting & Decorating.

Assessment of practical skills and some basic theory is undertaken throughout the programme and at the end of the course there is a practical synoptic test along with an on–line test of underpinning knowledge.

Both courses include 3 basic units covering health & safety, communications and building technology as well as the following trade specific units:

The Diploma was devised to offer training to those wanting to get into the construction industry and is designed to introduce learners to the basic skills of the trade.

Carpentry

• Produce Basic Wood Joints
• Maintain and use Carpentry and Joinery hand tools
• Prepare and use Carpentry and Joinery portable tools
• Synoptic Practical Assignment
• GOLA test

Painting & decorating

• Erect and Dismantle access equipment
• Preparing surfaces for Decoration
• Applying Paint Systems by Brush and Rollers
• Applying Basic Wallpapers
• Producing Specialist Decorative Finishes
• Synoptic Practical Assignment
• GOLA test

Plastering

• Carry out safe working practices in construction
• Information, quantities & communicating with others
• Building methods and construction technology
• Prepare background surfaces and plaster materials
• Apply plaster materials to internal backgrounds
• Produce components from moulds
• Synoptic Practical Assignment
• GOLA test

The courses run 3 days per week (less than 16 hours per week) for approximately 26 weeks (6 months).

Places may be available on either a fully-funded or part-funded basis, depending on the individual candidate’s status (to be fully-funded, a learner must be either aged 16-18 or in receipt of a means-tested benefit)

All candidates must pay a registration/exam fee of £35, payable before training starts.

Applicants will have to take an assessment of Maths and English and undergo an interview.
